Emory Duick Running Route 66
Emory Duick, of Des Plaines, Illinois, just turned 71 years old and he did so while running Route 66 from Chicago to the Santa Monica pier.
Duick describes himself as an avid runner and says that he has participated in many marathons over the years
Duick is accompanied on his six month "jog" by his daughter Lauren, who took six months off from work to serve as his navigator and she meets her father with their camper at their final destination for each day.

Update 8/05/09:
As of 8/04/09 - Emory Duick had made it as far as Tulsa, OK which is about 700 miles into his journey.

Update 10/20/09:
As of 10/19/09 - Emory Duick has made it to the Albuquerque, New Mexico area . Reportedly, Duick walks 10 miles a day and has 1,100 miles left to cover. He won't be able to walk every last mile of the route because Lauren has to return to work Jan. 1.

Emory Duick has made it!
On December 28, 2009, Emory Duick and his daughter, Lauren, reached the Santa Monica Pier and the end of the Mother Road.
It took Duick, jogging and power walking, a total of 211 days to cover the length of the Mother Road but make it he did and for that he deserves not only congratulations but respect for proving that over-70 does not mean one is supposed to sit in a rocking chair and watch as the world passes them by.
